Routers & Mesh

Spread Reliable Wi-Fi Around Your Space

The layout of your home matters as much as the hardware. Walls, floors and distance all affect wireless signal, so think about where you use devices most before deciding between one router, a mesh kit or a router plus access points.

Features to Compare in Routers and Mesh Systems

• Single router or mesh: Mesh kits come in 1, 2, 3 or larger packs, and many let you add units later. Check which units are compatible.
• Wi-Fi generation: Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 models are listed. Your devices must also support a standard to use it.
• Bands: Dual-band and tri-band options are available; how bands are used varies by model.
• Wired ports: The number and type of Ethernet ports varies by model. Check the specifications.
• Management: Many systems use an app for setup, while UniFi gateways and access points suit more advanced, centrally managed setups.
• Gaming and parental features: Gaming routers such as ASUS ROG Rapture and TP-Link Archer, plus parental controls, appear on selected models.

How to Choose a Router or Mesh System

1. Check how your service connects. Most routers plug into an NBN connection box or modem, so confirm your NBN technology and the product's supported connection types.
2. Consider the size, levels and building materials of your home.
3. Count your connected devices and any wired gear.
4. Decide whether you want simple app setup or advanced network control.
5. Check the condition and warranty on each listing, as some items are refurbished or open box.

Brands in this range include D-Link, Ubiquiti, Tenda, eero, Google, Xiaomi, Netgear, Huawei, TP-Link and Asus.

Routers & Mesh FAQs

How many mesh units do I need?

It depends on the size and layout of your home. Larger or multi-storey homes often use more units. Check the manufacturer's guidance for each kit.

Can I add a mesh system to my existing modem?

Usually yes. Many mesh systems connect to a modem or NBN box by Ethernet. Check the setup requirements on the product page.

Do I need Wi-Fi 7?

Only devices that support Wi-Fi 7 can use its features. A Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E system may suit homes with older devices.

Can I mix different mesh brands?

Mesh units are generally designed to work within the same brand or family. Check compatibility before buying add-on units.

What is an access point?

An access point adds Wi-Fi from a wired network connection. It is typically used with a router or gateway, such as in a UniFi setup.
